Harm Minimisation
Our aim is to educate and inform both service users and substance misuse workers on techniques and practices that will ultimately help to reduce the spread of blood borne viruses and therefore reduce the incidence of drug related death.
Specialist pharmacy based needle exchange scheme
The pharmacy based needle exchange scheme provides safe distribution of tailor made injecting packs to drug users. Participating in the scheme encourages responsible behaviour thereby reducing the risk to the community by increasing return rates.
Engaging drug users through this Tier 1 service opens up a gateway for them to be referred on to Tier 2 and 3 services. They can be advised on how to access various services available in the community and helped to register with the local CDAT and other drug agencies offering advice, help and treatment.
The data collection system provides a complete breakdown of service user profiles and specific data can be collated depending on requirements. This system allows accurate identification of the number of injecting drug users accessing the scheme.
Independent Audit of local treatment system
A comprehensive audit is created showing how easy it is to access services, this process assesses telephone advice and information, signposting and how well access points are advertised within the community.
The audit is carried out by actual testing of local communities' response to those presenting need for access. The audit can be tailored to test specific services such as specialist and pharmacy outlets.
Independent Health Checks
Training
Our training programmes target both services users and drug workers, ensuring continuity. Drug workers and ex service users, both of whom have an excellent understanding of target audiences and their specific needs, deliver these programmes. For a more detailed description of these see our training page.
